Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do you accept donations of used eyeglasses?
Unfortunately, the only types of eyeglass donations that we can make use of are non-prescription sunglasses. We are not able to reuse eyeglass frames or redistribute prescription glasses, whether for reading or distance. A US NGO, Restoring Vision, generously provides us with prescription eyeglasses packaged and labeled in a way that is efficient for the fast pace of our clinics.
How do I join a volunteer trip with Operation Ethiopia?
Please visit our volunteer page for all the information about joining us for a medical mission. Feel free to reach out directly with any questions.
Do you work only in the Jewish communities of Ethiopia or also the broader population?
We first became aware of the extreme need for eyecare in Ethiopia by volunteering in the Jewish community of Gondar with our kids in 2014. But our Jewish and Israeli NGO gladly serves ALL people in need in Ethiopia, regardless of religion or any other distinction.
I am a doctor and want to operate with you in Ethiopia, is that possible?
In order to operate in Ethiopia, you need an Ethiopian medical license. The eye surgeons who operate with us in Ethiopia have gone through a long process to secure an Ethiopian medical license. We do bring volunteer ophthalmologists to work with us in our Mobile Eyecare Clinics, and for that, a local medical license is not needed.
